In April 2005, Paul Kellogg, Jackie Benson and Bill Cave purchased Hans’ Bier Haus near the Rice Village with plans to resurrect one of the few places left in the area that had been well known as a place for local residents to gather and enjoy light adult beverages in a relaxing atmosphere. The Bier Haus, as it is commonly called, is one of the very few places in Houston that has a bocce court (lawn bowling) and is the only one that has a continuously used official size and construction court. The Bier Haus features over 100 different imported and domestic beers, 60 of which are on tap, and 25 different wines, champagnes and sparkling wines. Mixed beverages are not served at the Bier Haus and BYOB is discouraged.
Several prominent public figures patronize the Bier Haus and have supported us in our efforts to give back to the community. Since our purchase of the Bier Haus, we have sponsored events that have raised funds for organizations such as the Sunshine Kids, the American Red Cross, Trees for Houston, St. Jude Research Hospital, the Houston Young Lawyers Assn., Zion Lutheran school, Rice University Young Alumni, Rice University Rugby Team, the Texas Christian University Alumni Organization, the University of Texas Exes, the University of Houston Drama Dept., the University of Houston Alumni Organization, Forgotten Angels and the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce.
Hans also participates in the Art Car Parade. |
